GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS ONLY CURRENT STUDENTS OF THE LAKELAND ELECTRIC ACADEMIES AT TENOROC HIGH SCHOOL & TRAVISS TECHNICAL ACADEMY SHOULD COMPLETE THIS PRACTICE APPLICATION.
This is a skilled technical position responsible for performing and/or assisting engineers and other professionals in engineering and statistical work.
Work involves the use of personal computers including software applications, computer input/output terminals, calculators, and other technical data-processing devices.
Work is performed under general direction and checked upon completion to ensure quality, accuracy, and completeness.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS Enters data and statistics into processing devices using exacting procedures as designated by management, engineers, planners, and others; runs programs, reports, or executes established procedures to obtain the necessary output in proper format.
Maintains an efficient database filing and records system.
Assists in preparing complex forecasts, studies, technical reports, permit drawings, legal descriptions, memorandums, letters, and related items.
Utilizes various software applications to create presentations, collect data, and calculate statistical averages and trends, rates of change, percentages, and plotting technical data.
Assembles and compiles technical or business-related data on many different forms or in special format for use and analysis by engineers or management for internal/external use and for submittal to government agencies.
Performs routine manual and CAD drafting Prepares project designs, materials and budget/invoices for supervisor approval.
Submits recorded technical data and electric facilities design as completed and energized.
Responds to internal and external customer communications, inquires, and requests.
May be required to attend meetings and visit job sites at locations other than primary work location.
Maintains the service engineering mailbox and voicemail.
Must be able to work extended hours as necessary to provide operational effectiveness.
Must be able to work “call out” as necessary to provide operational effectiveness.
Position is designated Mission Critical.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (T & D): Prepares distribution design based on load data and customer needs.
Designs lighting applications, create work orders and inspect contractor work.
Performs field checks to verify that electrical conduit and hardware are installed per plans.
Records redline and lighting installations into GIS.
Consults with other engineering technicians to solve complex problems.
Keeps an up to date project list to assist in load forecasting.
Preparation of cost estimates and invoicing of customers.
Provides Development Review Team (DRT) comments for new projects.
Manages a service area with lower level projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Substation Operations): Performs field inspections to verify compliance with project drawings and specifications.
Responds to internal and external customer communications, inquires and requests.
Performs the function of converting existing engineering drawings to a computerized database.
Develops engineering drawings from sketches or verbal information supplied by engineers or from field observations.
Assists in performing the more complex drafting and illustrative graphics functions related to engineering plans preparation using Computer Aided Design in Drafting (CADD) software.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Energy Production): Enters data into processing devices using procedures designated by engineers, planners, and others; runs programs or executes procedures to obtain the necessary output in proper format.
Assists in performing research, preparing studies, technical reports and related activities.
Utilizes various software applications to create presentations, collect data, calculate statistical averages, statistical trends, rates of change, percentages, and plotting technical data.
Assembles and compiles technical or business-related data on many different forms or in special format for use and analysis by engineers or management for internal use, external use, and for submittal to government agencies.
Develops and maintains an efficient filing and records system.
May perform drafting (both manual and CAD) of drawings for power generation facilities.
Develops and produces presentation graphics materials.
Calculates statistical averages, cumulative and rolling averages, statistical trends, rates of change, percentages, etc.

Develops and administers minor technical projects.
Must be able assist in operation and testing of power plant equipment, performance of pollution controls testing, survey work and non-destructive testing programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Smart Grid): Daily operations of the AMI system Daily investigations of problems and errors associated with the AMI systems, software, and hardware Maintains standards for AMI and MDM system performance, facilitates the operations for changes, upgrades, and expansions.
Maintains a current knowledge of standards, work methods, and technologies available to improve the efficiency and of operational safety.
Prepare and maintain the necessary records, reports, and documentation for assigned systems.
QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE) AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS An Associate’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics or a Science-related field.
Three (3) years of experience in mathematical, technical, or in related electric utility work.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provide the knowledge, skills and abilities and other competencies necessary for success in the target position may be considered.
OR: Successful completion of the Lakeland Electric Lineman Training program.
Six (6) years of experience in mathematical, technical or related electronic utility experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (All): Must maintain City driving privileges/valid driver's license.
Must maintain a valid telephone number.
May be required to pass and maintain quality for: Respiratory Protection Physical Pulmonary Function Qualitative and Quantitative Fit Test(s) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Knowledge of and complete familiarity with computer input/output terminals, calculators and other technical data processing devices.
Knowledge of word processing, computer aided design (CAD), spreadsheet, database, GIS and presentation software.
Knowledge of mathematics and statistics.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, developers, other City employees and the general public.
Ability to assist in administration of contracts including review plans, correspondence, reports and specifications.
Ability to procure goods and services from various vendors.
Ability to maintain accurate records, files and reports.
Ability to understand, follow, and transmit complex oral and written instructions.
Ability to develop, implement and administer technical projects including creating moderately complex engineering drawings, work order documents, performing technical computations, make estimates, cost evaluations and to compile statistical data without supervisory input.
Ability/willingness to perform work safely and to report unsafe practices/situations to the appropriate supervisor.
Ability/willingness to perform work to support the vision, mission, values and goals of the departments.
Knowledge of engineering theory, practices, standards and methods used in office and field engineering for design and construction of electrical transmission lines, distribution lines and substations.
Knowledge of Lakeland’s service territory, Electrical Distribution and Service Construction Standards, the Subdivision and Commercial Development Policy, the Standard Electrical Service Requirement Policy, and the Customer Service Information System.
Knowledge of basic budgetary and accounting procedures and practices.
Skill in performing a wide variety of tasks using various data handling machines and devices.
Ability to coordinate activities in relation to other utilities’ and customers’ need.
Ability to use various portable electrical measuring meters, survey equipment and perform engineering and surveying calculations.
Knowledge of and familiarity with Maximo, UMS and Designer.
Ability to do surveying, overhead and underground electrical permits.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires sedentary and active work that involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 30 pounds of force on a recurring basis, routine keyboard operations and operation of City general purpose vehicles (automobile or pick-up truck).
Some job duties may be performed in an office environment while other duties may require field work at various outdoor job sites.
The job risks exposure on rare occasions to electrical, mechanical or chemical hazardous conditions, occasional exposure to extreme noise levels, dusts pollen, bright/dim lights, extreme heat/cold, wet/humid conditions, fumes, noxious odors and heights.
The job requires normal visual acuity, field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, depth perception, texture perception and sense of smell.
