Position Information Work Type: Active - Benefit Eligible and Accrues Time Off Exempt: No Work Schedule: Friday, Saturday & Sunday Work Hours per Biweekly Pay Period: Shift Time: 10:00pm to 6:30am Location: Medical Center, US:FL:Lakeland Position Summary Summary: Responsible for the movement of patients and materials throughout the hospital.
Transporters assist and lift patients hands-on to properly position on wheelchairs/stretchers, deliver patients to the intended destinations, move patient care equipment as necessary to complete transport assignments and support the goals of the department.
Assist in training new employees in the proper techniques and procedures of Transporter duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Transporters maintain high standards in quality/quantity of work performed and adhere to all regulatory, hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
May experience traumatic situations including deceased patients, psychiatric and/or dismembered patients.

* Standard Work Duties: Transporter II - Transports patients, supplies, and equipment throughout hospital in a safe, timely, and efficient manner in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Maintains an average transport time of 3.
25 transports per hour or 20 minutes productive time per assignment, and an 80%/20% productive/idle time performance, as verified by Tele-Tracking system reports.
Provides assistance and calls for emergency help for patients who become ill during the transport process.
- Communicates with the Dispatcher/Supervisor to verify the correct patient name, room number, destination, urgency, and mode of transport for all patients requiring services, if necessary.
Accurately verifies patient identity by visually checking patient armband and asks patient to identify themselves in two ways (i.
e.
, name, date of birth).
Verify patient identity with family, physician, or nursing staff as required to ensure correct identification.
Uses age specific criteria to evaluate competency of patient in advance of transport.
- Responsible for securing appropriate equipment to each transport assignment.
Assist caregivers and technical staff with movement and lifting patients onto/off the transport equipment.
Demonstrate current knowledge and expertise required to safely perform complex/department patient lifts and transfers.
Demonstrate competency in proper utilization of patient lifting equipment.
Responsible for safely transporting patients with oxygen, IV's, monitors, isolation precautions, and other special needs according to department and hospital policies and procedures.
- Identifies and interprets cardiac rhythms.
Communicate changes in rhythms (more specifically lethal rhythms) and trends to appropriate caregiver.
Notify appropriate staff when transporting or returning patients on telemetry monitors.
Communicate patient name, room number, and destination to Telemetry Monitor Stations.
- Under direction from the registered nurse, performs direct patient care, utilizing established standards/competencies, policies and procedures, assuring that patient and staff are a priority in all activities.
Adhere to universal and isolation precautions at all times.
- Utilizes proper transport and lifting techniques when moving patients.
Ensure that patients' basic needs are satisfied upon return to room.
Reports patient needs to nursing staff before leaving unit.
- Properly utilizes electronic patient transport dispatch system (Tele-Tracking) to accept, place in progress, and complete assignments.
Records delays codes in system if delay will be longer than five minutes.
Notifies destination or procedure area if a transport request has to be cancelled or rescheduled, with the reason and the length of time rescheduled.
Seek advice from CTS Leadership before canceling or rescheduling a high priority request.
- Notifies Dispatcher immediately upon completion of any manually assigned task.
Proceed quickly as instructed with next assignment.
If delays occur, communicates the type of delay to Dispatched and proceeds as instructed.
Notify the Supervisor and/or Manager of process issues, equipment breakdowns, delays and other situations that have the potential to affect safe and timely transportation within one hour of discovery.
- Greets and assists patients, visitors, physicians, and staff throughout the facility in a customer friendly manner.
Provide brief directions and/or other helpful information during the performance of routine calls.
Maintain a neat, safe, clean working environment.
Maintains transport equipment, clean, sanitize, and stores the equipment in its proper location.
Utilize proper infection control techniques to clean equipment.
Remove all broken equipment from service to ensure patient safety.
Notifies Supervisor and /or Manager of needed repairs within one hour of discovery.
Qualifications & Experience Education: Essential: * High School or Equivalent Other information: Certifications Essential: BLS Experience Preferred: Three to six months previous experience in similar role
