JOB TITLE System Engineer JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY ABOUT FLORIDA POLY INFORMATION TECHONLOGY SERVICES: The Information Technology Services (ITS) division at Florida Poly pursues the vision of enabling Florida Poly to be a leader among STEM institutions in the innovative use of information technology to transform teaching and learning, empower research, improve the student experience and student success, enable data-driven management and decision-making, and effectively conduct University operations and services.
Our teams are staffed by energetic professionals who pursue service excellence, seek innovation and continuous improvement, and operate effectively in a highly collaborative environment.
We are in the midst of a major transformation of IT (Information Technology) infrastructures, architectures, and service delivery models at Florida Poly in support of the University’s new five-year strategic plan.
Our strategic initiatives include business systems modernization, IT service management, business process management, next-generation network services, cybersecurity automation, dataware and business intelligence, and cloud migration.
Reporting to the Vice President and CIO, ITS is organized into seven teams including Academic Technology, IT Support Services, Networking, IT Security, Platforms and Systems Engineering, DevOps (including both data engineering and application engineering), and IT Solutions Delivery.
SUMMARY OF POSITION: We are searching for multiple System Engineer’s to join the Platforms & Systems Engineering Team.
The Platforms team is responsible for critical technologies in support of the University mission which includes the management of all physical and virtual server infrastructure, Identity and Access Management (IAM), cloud infrastructure (Azure and AWS (Amazon Web Services)), backup and disaster recovery, database infrastructure, Microsoft 365, and the Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) platform.
This position reports to the Assistant Director of Platforms and Systems Engineering.
This highly technical role is responsible for assigned physical and/or virtual server infrastructure and platforms in a predominately Microsoft environment.
The Engineer designs and deploys complex systems critical to university operations as well as share responsibility of large platforms managed by the Platforms and Systems Engineering team.
The Engineer must be able to complete tasks with minimal supervision and be eager to explore and lead new initiatives.
JOB DESCRIPTION RESPONSIBILITIES: Design, deploy, document, and continuously improve assigned infrastructure and platforms.
Perform vulnerability remediation and patching of software and operating systems on assigned infrastructure and platforms.
Participate in the shared support of large platforms managed by the team.
Work as part of a team towards accomplishing team initiatives and projects.
Write PowerShell scripts and/or low-code solutions to simplify common tasks.
Work on automating processes to increase department efficiency and user self-help capabilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of virtualization technologies, such as VMware and Hyper V or Azure Stack HCI (Hyper Converged Infrastructure).
Strong working knowledge of Azure and Microsoft 365 administration.
Knowledge of common Microsoft platforms such as AD (Active Directory), DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), DNS (Domain Name System), IIS (Internet Information Services), and SQL.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of basic programming concepts to support the ability to create and troubleshoot PowerShell scripts and low-code solutions.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills capable of training end-users or other technical staff in software applications and operating systems ranging in complexity.
Knowledge of common security frameworks (e.
g.
, CIS (Center for Internet Security) and NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology)) as well common security tools and practices (e.
g.
, PAM (Privilege Access Management), Password Vault, JIT (Just-in-time) Access, log aggregation solutions, RBAC (Role Based Access Control), MFA (Multi-factor Authentication)).
Knowledge of authentication methods such as Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML), OAuth, and Kerberos.
Knowledge of the lifecycle of SSL certificates and understanding of PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) Excellent analytical, critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills; both in person and in writing.
Ability to work as part of a team or independently to accomplish a task.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Level I Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Degrees outside related field accepted with relevant experience.
In lieu of a degree, any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
Experience in a similar role.
Intermediate-level troubleshooting skills in a wide variety of technologies related to the position.
Level II Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Degrees outside related field accepted with relevant experience.
In lieu of a degree, any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
At least one year of experience in a similar role.
Advanced-level troubleshooting skills in a wide variety of technologies related to the position.
Level III Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Degrees outside related field accepted with relevant experience.
In lieu of a degree, any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
At least two years of experience in a similar role.
One or more years working with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365.
Mastery-level troubleshooting skills in a wide variety of technologies related to the position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and five or more years’ experience in a similar role.
One or more years working with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365.
One or more years working one or more of the following virtualization technologies: Hyper V, Azure Stack HCI, or VMware.
One or more years writing/troubleshooting PowerShell scripts.
Any of the following certifications are a plus: Microsoft Azure Administrator, Solutions Architect, and/or Identity and Access Administrator Microsoft Azure Security Engineer or Cybersecurity Architect Microsoft 365 Administrator Expert Microsoft Windows Server Hybrid Administrator VMware Data Center Virtualization Expert CompTIA Server+, Cloud+, and/or Security+ REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF LAW: Must possess a valid driver’s license.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: This position is an exempt salaried role.
The normal work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.

, however, occasional after hours (weekends and evenings) duties may be required.
Travel between campus locations may be required.
Optional travel provided for training and/or technical conferences.
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule allowing for two-three days remote each week.
Wednesday is a required in-office day for all ITS staff.
TARGET HIRING SALARY: This position can be filled as Level I, II, or III depending on experience and skills.
